Martin lives near Perth, in Western Australia.
Interested in electronics and computers at a young age, he went on to complete a
five year combined Science/Engineering degree at the
University of Western Australia,
majoring in
Computer Science and
Electrical/Electronic Engineering
(honours).
In his final year at university, he completed an honours project titled
Motor Speed Control via a Neural Network Controller,
with the
Centre for Intelligent Information Processing Systems,
a research group in the
Electrical/Electronic Engineering
department at UWA.
Martin has an interest in cars, and used to drive a
modified 1971 Datsun 1200 4-door sedan.
He still maintains the Datsun 1200 Modifications website,
a collection of information detailing modifications that can be done to a
Datsun 1200, collected from many sources around the world.
When Martin eventually sold his Datsun 1200, it was replaced with a 1989 Nissan
U12 Pintara Ti sedan.
He also owns a 2000 Mitsubishi Magna TJ Advance wagon,
which was originally the family car.
However, due to the imminent arrival of a fourth child, the Pintara was sold,
and a 2004 Toyota Tarago GLi became the new family car, with the Magna becoming
Martin's daily driver.
Martin has been an electronic hobbyist since an early age, making and repairing a
wide variety of electrical and electronic devices.
His current hobbies include
wireless networking (as an active member of the
WAFreeNet),
photography,
software programming,
web development, and maintains several
websites, including
martybugs.net,
jackdevos.com,
rainbowrarities.com,
FRCA,
FRCWK.
Martin and his wife Ruth have four children,
Ashley (1998),
Michelle (2000),
Nicholas (2003) and Samantha (2007).
