Note

This Datsun 1200 Modifications website was started in the early 1990s, as a means to collate information that I collected from various car-related newsgroups and from information people emailed to me. This was the first web-based collection of Datsun 1200 related information.

In more recent years, the internet has changed significantly, first with web-based forums replacing newsgroups, and more recently, with facebook groups becoming a popular way for enthusiasts to share information and resources.
The car industry has also changed significantly, with many vendors now producing new replacement parts for cars like the Datsun 1200. For example, Mad Dat in South Australia, Datsun Parts Shop in Queensland, Australia and New-Datsun-Parts in Vancouver, Canada produce many new replacement parts for modifying and upgrading Datsuns.

While much of the information here is quite old, I am leaving it online as a reference.
For more up-to-date information, there are many other resources, including these facebook groups: as well as the exhaustive datsun1200.com website and many other websites.

Intro

This webpage contains details of many modifications and enhancements which are possible for a Datsun 1200. This page has grown from initially just detailing the modifications I've done to the 1971 Datsun 1200 sedan I used to own, to quite a comprehensive list of Datsun 1200 modifications, thanks to a lot of people who have sent me details of modifications they have done to their Datsuns. The majority of these modifications are possible because of the interchangeability of Datsun parts between one model and another.

The Datsun 1200 (as it is known in Australia) is also known as a Datsun B110, and the Datsun 120Y as a Datsun B210 (just as the Datsun 1600 is known as Datsun 510).

The Datsun 1200 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe, 4-door wagon and 2-door ute were sold in Australia from 1970 to 1973 (the ute was sold until 1985). The 1200 was superceeded by the 120Y, which was sold in Australia from 1974 to 1978, before being superceeded by the Sunny.

Although the purpose of this webpage is to describe modifications to a Datsun 1200, many of these modifications also apply to the Datsun 120Y, as the 120Y is mechanically very similar to the 1200.

All information is presented in good faith. I will not be held responsible for any damage, accidents, fines, infringement notices or any other undesirable effects which may arise as a direct or indirect result of the information presented here.

If you have any comments, suggestions, queries, or details of other Datsun 1200 modifications, feel free to email me.
