Contacting Martin
The preferred method for contacting Martin is via email.
Email
Martin's email address is
mpot@martybugs.net
Although Martin receives a lot of email, he generally tries to respond
to all emails sent to him.
Ignored Email
Exceptions typically include emails which:
- are not written in english (yes, Martin does get emails written in foreign languages)
- ask for help which Martin can't provide (ie, people overseas asking if they can buy Datsun parts)
- are spam or contain spam
- contain a virus
Martin's mail server will automagically delete any emails containing a virus,
and will also quarantine email it classifies as spam, so he won't even see those emails.
Refer to the SpamAssassin's page on
Some Tips for Legitimate Senders to Avoid False Positives
for suggestions on email composition to ensure your email isn't incorrectly
classified as spam.
Be sure to provide a valid return email address. It happens too often that Martin attempts
to reply to an email, only to get a Delivery Status Notification, due to an invalid
email address.
Attachments
Do not send large attachments to Martin. If you really need to send an attachment,
please compress it before sending it (preferably using zip).
If you must send a screen shot to demonstrate a problem you might be experiencing,
don't send it as a .BMP file. BMP files
have no compression, and are orders of magnitude larger than other common image formats,
such as PNG, JPG
and GIF.
HTML Email
HTML email is not appreciated for
numerous reasons,
as it's dangerous, wastes bandwidth, and doesn't always work.
You're much more likely to get a response if you send your email in plain text.
IRC (Internet Relay Chat)
Martin is regularly on the following IRC channels:
#help, #chat
and #homebrew on irc.smoothwall.org:6667
#perthwireless on irc.wafreenet.org:6667 or irc.bcwireless.net:6667
#wafreenet on 10.60.0.2 (available on the Perth Wireless
Freenet only)
On IRC, Martin generally uses mpot as his username.
Web Forums
Martin is one of the administrators for the software forums at
forums.overclockers.com.au
and if you're a member, you can send him a private message (although email is preferred).
He's also a moderator on the
Smoothwall Community Forums.
Martin's username on these forums is mpot.
