2" Sports Exhaust
When I first installed an A14 in
my Datsun 1200, I kept the standard
3/4" exhaust for a couple of months.
I found the exhaust flange bolts continued to come loose,
due to the excessive back-pressure.
I then had a 2" exhaust with a sports muffler installed.
However, it had resonant frequencies of 2000rpm, 4000rpm and 6000rpm.
I got sick of the excessive noise at these revs, and installed a 2" hotdog, which
certainly quietened down the resonant frequencies.
The muffler is mounted where the original muffler was - just in front of
the diff. The hotdog is installed about at the middle of the car, just
where the tail-shaft tunnel widens out a bit.
The 2" exhaust definitely allows the A14 engine to rev much more freely.
The standard 3/4" exhaust was certainly too small for the A14, and
the 2" seems to be much suitable.
