discussion, gear, and photography journal
Someone emailed this to me, and I thought it was quite appropriate, given the big focus on Santa and gift-giving at this time of the year, with many people forgetting the true meaning of Christmas.

I believe this poem was originally penned by Rev James Spellman of Ohio (ref).
Why Jesus is better than Santa Claus

Santa lives at the North Pole
Jesus is everywhere.

Santa rides in a sleigh
Jesus rides on the wind and walks on the water.

Santa comes but once a year
Jesus is an ever present help.

Santa fills your stockings with goodies
Jesus supplies all your needs.

You have to stand in line to see Santa
Jesus is as close as the mention of His name.

Santa lets you sit on his lap
Jesus lets you rest in His arms.

Santa doesn't know your name, all he can say is "Hi little boy or girl, what's your name?"
Jesus knew our name before we did. Not only does He know our name, He knows our address too. He knows our history and future and He even knows how many hairs are on our head.

Santa has a belly like a bowl full of jelly
Jesus has a heart full of love.

All Santa can offer is HO HO HO.
Jesus offers health, help and hope.

Santa says "You better not cry"
Jesus says "Cast all your cares on me for I care for you".

Santa's little helpers make toys
Jesus makes new life, mends wounded hearts, repairs broken homes and builds mansions.

Santa may make you chuckle but
Jesus gives you joy that is your strength.

While Santa puts gifts under your tree
Jesus became our gift and died on the tree.

It's obvious there is really no comparison.
Jesus is still the reason for the season.
Yes, Jesus is better, he is even better than Santa Claus.

That is a neat little comparison (if there can be such a thing between them)

It's a good way to help people remember the true reason for the season and meaning behind the holiday!

Christmas is a pagan festival that was stolen by the christians. Jesus has no more to do with it than Santa

If you look at the above link you will see the REAL "reason for the season" IS pretty much pigging out on food and drink and giving gifts to loved ones.

The church kinda hijacked the whole thing!

Your meaning or reason for christmas is not necessarily the "true" reason, and different people celebrate it for different reasons. For me it is about spending time with family, yes sharing gifts but also sharing love and a meal. And nothing to do with any character from a book, fictional or otherwise ;)

Have a good Xmyth mate :)

That's beautiful.

Couldn't have said it any better way.
Regardless of peoples doubt, Jesus will always be the only real and true reason why Christmas(and everyday)is special.

@Nigel: I wasn't referring to the pagan festival...I was referring to the commemoration of "Christmas", which celebrates and remembers the birth of Christ approx 2000 years ago.
