Something a little different - this is an abstract (intentionally) out-of-focus photos of a ship being loaded at the Kwinana Grain Terminal Wharf.

For those who are wondering what the lights are from, see here for an in-focus photo of the same subject.
More photos from the same evening shoot have been posted previously here and here.

We recently returned from a trip to Kupang, West Timor (East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia), where I led a team of 12 (including my wife and 4 children) on a Wings To Work trip to spend some time at the New Hope Home and the Elpida School. This was my second visit to Kupang - I was a member of a Wings To Work team in September 2014.

One of the (many) highlights of our trip this year was a visit to the mission post at Barate, north of Kupang. The photo above was shot on the beach at Barate, just a short walk from the area where we were camping under the trees. A 30 second exposure captured some of the stars, as well as the sparks flying from the fire.

Some more photos from the same evening on the beach are below.

Here are a few more photos from a night shoot last weekend with a friend. These photos are of the CBH Grain Terminal in Kwinana. The first two photos were taken at Rockingham beach, south of the grain terminal. The bright lights in the background are some other industrial plants, including BP Refinery, Alcoa Alumina Refinery, and others.

The photo below shows the Grain Terminal Wharf on the left, and the Grain Terminal and Storage Facility on the right hand side, with four conveyors linking the two.
Something a little bit different from recent posts, this is a 30 second exposure of a refinery in Kwinana, shot from the side of the road on the weekend.
The photo was converted to black and white using Silver Efex Pro 2 from Google's Nik Collection.

Here is another photo from our night sky shoot at Lake Leschenaultia on Saturday night. This photo was created by stacking 119 photos, and each of those photos was a 30 second exposure.

I used my Phottix Aion intervalometer to trigger the camera, and had to clean up a few of the frames, due to some random stranger on the other side of the lake shining his torch directly at us.

Last night I ventured out to Lake Leschenaultia with a friend, and with my oldest daughter, to shoot the night sky. We wanted to be far enough away from the metro area to avoid the light pollution, and the relatively late rising of the moon meant a dark night sky for a few hours.
It was cold, but our view of the night sky was not marred by any clouds, and we managed to get some worthwhile photos of the Milky Way and the stars.

A long exposure captures my oldest daughter writing the word "love" using a sparkler.
We were out in a remote location, after shooting the sunset and doing some steel wool spinning, and the kids wanted to have some fun with sparklers.

I recently visited Tokyo, Japan for a week, for some work-related commitments. This is the veiw out of the window on my ninth floor hotel room at Takeshiba, showing Tokyo Bay, with the Rainbow Bridge on the left hand side.

I left my tripod at home, so for this 30 second exposure, I balanced my camera on top of a coffee table on top of the room service trolley.

This was not the first time I've used whatever was available in the hotel room to support my camera for a long exposure photo - I have previously used a Coke can to support my camera when shooting out of a hotel window.
Here's a photo taken in Sydney in late 2009, capturing the lights of Luna Park after sunset. It was shot across the harbour from Blues Point.
I tried a few different exposures, and found about 10 seconds gave good results to capture the lights on the spinning ferris wheel, while still smoothing out the water.
