Milky Way over Lake Leschenaultia
Milky Way over Lake Leschenaultia

Last night I ventured out to Lake Leschenaultia with a friend, and with my oldest daughter, to shoot the night sky. We wanted to be far enough away from the metro area to avoid the light pollution, and the relatively late rising of the moon meant a dark night sky for a few hours.
It was cold, but our view of the night sky was not marred by any clouds, and we managed to get some worthwhile photos of the Milky Way and the stars.

Lovely photo, and great result! That must be about an hour drive from where you live - any reason you went there instead of just driving 30 min SW (on either #30 or #40) to escape the city's light pollution?

@Richard: thanks for the feedback on the photo.

There wasn't any particular reason we went to Lake Leschenaultia - other than it being a landmark that would allow us to get off the road (to avoid light pollution from cars), had a large clear area to ensure we had an almost-uninterrupted view of the night sky, and it was a place that I had previously been to (for a long weekend with friends several years ago).
The lake also provided opportunities to capture the reflection of the night sky.

Hi IMay I know if the lake leschenaultia allows to get in at night? I'm planning to have a look at such scene but I check the closing time is around 5/6pm...

@Txp: I think the gates close at 6pm, but that's just to stop vehicles. You can still walk past the gates.

I just parked on the side of the road near the entrance, and we walked the short distance to the edge of the lake.
