discussion, gear, and photography journal
While on holidays in Yallingup recently (in the south west of Western Australia), I took the opportunity to get my GoPro Hero2 camera airborne with my kite. These photos are from a KAP session at Wyadup, located between Canal Rocks and Injidup Beach, just south of Yallingup.
These photos were taken in the late afternoon, while on our way to Injidup Beach to shoot the sunset.

Here is an aerial photo looking south from Wyadup, showing the fantastic Injidup Beach.

Looking almost straight down from the kite shows the rock formations at Wyadup. However, this angle doesn't give you any appreciation for the height of these rocks.

Here is a photo taken with my phone, looking west towards the ocean. At centre left you can just see a friend of mine. I am standing on top of the rock formation, and he is a long way down from where I am.

The photo below was taken towards the north west, and shows the canal-like formations in the rocks. In the top right corner of the photo you can see the next rocky outcrop on the coast, called Canal Rocks, where these formations are much more pronounced (the canal formations at Canal Rocks are clearly visible on google maps).

The sun briefly burst through the clouds, lighting up the surf and the rocks, so I grabbed my phone to take a few photos of Injidup Beach:

As I was perched on top of the rocks, there was insufficient room to walk down the kite. I hauled it down hand-over-hand, trying to lay out the line across the rocks. The photo below was taken by the GoPro camera as the KAP rig reached ground level.

Lovely unique shots, Marty. The colours are amazing too.

Nice photos! The lighting makes it extra special. Are the "fish-eye" effects caused by an extreme wide angle option on your camera? All the best with it.

@Andrew: thanks for the feedback.

The GoPro HD Hero2 camera I use for KAP has a 170 degree wide angle lens on it - hence the "fish-eye" view.
